KREWE OF PHOENIX will present "Tributes" Friday, Feb. 4, 2011.

Mobile's newest Mardi Gras organization
Mobile, AL – February 4, 2011 Krewe of Phoenix Enters Second Carnival with "Tributes!" at the Fort Whiting Armory 1620 South Broad Street, Mobile.
In 2010, KOP became Mobile's newest Mardi Gras organization, and members knew they had to make a big splash. Well, after the surge swept through Fort Whiting Armory, the Krewe of Phoenix was the talk of the town! All in attendence were in agreement: the inagural ball exceeded expectations for a new organization.

But in reality, many of those in KOP are seasoned Mardi Gras vets, having spent years crafting their carnival skills with Mobile's iconic Order of Osiris. Having set the standard for excellence in their first year, the KOP's will try to outdo themselves in their second tableau. Once again, the art deco interior of Fort Whiting will play host to the Rising of the Phoenix, the iconic firebird that is KOP's emblem. And what follows royalty will be each costuming member's loving tribute to an American icon. OK, so ABBA isn't really from America, but we claim them, don't we? Visually dissect the above promotional poster and you'll get a sneak peek of this year's show.
On their website, members of The Krewe of Phoenix describe themselves like this: "...a new, all inclusive, alternative Mardi Gras Organization in Mobile, Alabama. We have nine founding members who started the organization in January 2009. Our first general meeting with charter members was held March 22, 2009."
"Our main objective is to give viable support to the community. Our hope is to make a comfortable environment that will be fulfilling to all of us. Our dream is to not be complacent, but to grow and become a vital part of the community."
